Error - 'Oops, FocalPoint has Encountered an Error' when Opening Specific Purchase Request

Updated over 3 weeks ago

The most common cause of this issue is that one of the users involved in the purchase request has been taken out of a FocalPoint security profile.

Users are often removed from profiles after they leave the employment of a company, When this happens the user account should be disabled rather than removed from FocalPoint security profiles. We recommend moving the user to a blank security profile (a security profile with no permissions) and disabling the user account.

Note: If the history button cannot be seen at the top of the purchase transaction list, then you may be using split line approval for FocalPoint. If this is the case you will need assistance from the Access Support team to identify the user account that is causing the issue. Therefore please raise a new case and reference the title of this article.

To resolve this error:

  1. In FocalPoint, navigate to the Purchase Request affected.

  2. To establish the users that approved the transaction, at the top of the purchase transaction list, History. It may be helpful to make a note of these or take a screenshot. Each of these users must be present in a FocalPoint security profile to allow the transaction to be opened. To check this:

  3. Open FocalPoint Administrator

  4. Click System Control, Security Profiles

  5. Select the particular security profile, and click Members

  6. Check the list shown on the right hand side of the profile for any of the approvers from the History of the transaction.

  7. If the user cannot be seen on the right hand list at all, then it is likely that the user account has actually been removed from FocalPoint altogether and will need to be recreated with the same user ID as they previously had. To find this user ID please raise a new case and reference the title of this article and please include any details of the user affected.

  8. If they are present in this list without a Current Profile entry, this indicates that they are not in a security profile and therefore FocalPoint will show the above error when you try to open any purchase requests they have approved.

  9. Add the user back into the required security profile, possibly one without any permissions if the user has left the company.

  10. If the user has left the company, also disable the account. Click System Control, Users.
