Installing FocalPoint Administrator on a computer

Updated over a month ago

If you already have a version of FocalPoint installed, you will need to uninstall it before installing the new version.

Before you do this, we recommend taking a screenshot of the login screen showing the user Name, Data Source and Database as these will all need to be entered manually the first time you log into the new version.

We also advise that you backup the existing licence file to somewhere safe. To do this:

  1. Browse to: C:\Users\logged in users name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Access Applications\FocalPoint Administrator

  2. If there is a file called licence.dat here, go to step 4

  3. If the location in step 1 does not exist, or there is no licence.dat file there, then browse to the installation location (most commonly C:\Program Files (x86)\Access Applications\FocalPoint Administrator)

  4. Copy the licence.dat file to a safe location

This rest of this article deals with the installation itself and assumes that the user already has the installation files - if this isn't true, please raise a new case and reference the title of this article.

  1. Unzip the installation files folder called Focalpoint X.X.XX CD Image.zip. Where X.X.XX is the FocalPoint version number.

  2. Browse to FocalPoint X.X.XX CD Image\FocalPoint X.X.XX CD Image\install\FocalpointAdmin.

  3. Right-click on the setup.exe file and select Run as Administrator.

  4. Follow the on screen prompts to install the software. Note: Once installed, DO NOT open the software.

  5. Instead, browse to C:\Users\{logged in users name}\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Access Applications\FocalPoint Administrator and copy the Focalpoint.lbr and resource.srv files from the FTP folder into this location – replacing any that already exist there. If this location does not exist please skip to step 6

  6. Browse to the installation location (typically C:\Program Files (x86)\Access Applications\FocalPoint Administrator) and copy the Focalpoint.lbr and resource.srv files from the FTP folder into this location – replacing the ones that already exist there

  7. The licence file will also need to be copied into both of the above locations – if you did not back up your licence as described at the top of this article.
